Wales Photography Holiday - Snowdonia

Notice*

I’m currently revamping my business, having shifted to part-time photography. For the time being I’ll be focusing on providing "One to One" sessions, commercial commisions and publishing more photography books and photo 'zines'. As such, no further group courses or holidays are scheduled at this time. Thanks, Rod.

The Location

If you're thinking of a photography holiday in Wales, you can't go wrong with Snowdonia. This is a place of rugged natural beauty and undoubtedly hosts the most spectacular scenery in the southern half of Britain. A major plus is the proximity of mountain to sea - a heady mix for landscape photographers. It's the area that first inspired Rod's interest in mountain landscapes and was where a more serious interest in photography was born. Having lived there for four years, you'll be in the hands of someone who really knows their way around.

Our Snowdonia tour will be based in the northern part of the national park, close to the ranges of Snowdon, the Carneddau and Glyderau ranges. Also within striking distance are some stunning coastal locations.

Accommodation

We're offering this as a self-catering break, which helps keep costs to a minimum for you and offers us greater flexibility when it comes to timing our forays with the best photographic conditions. Included in the price is all the breakfast food (cooked & continental) and a broad selection of ingredients for you to make up packed lunches to your liking. (We'll ask when you book if you've any special dietary needs that you'd like us to cater for).

This provides flexibility within the programme and good value for money, as reflected in the lower price of this holiday compared to our half-board trips.

Food
A broad range of Breakfast ingredients are provided for guests each morning along with everything you need to make up a packed lunch to your liking.

There are some great pub venues nearby for evening meals (not included in the price) which we can go to every night, or the group might choose to eat in one evening. We'll decide as a group what you'd like to do at the time

Exertion level
The area offers some locations that are readily viewed direct from the roadside as well as many others that involve short walks. Some locations require a longer walk-in and the terrain may be rough and muddy, meaning a reasonable level of physical fitness is required to access them. We'll manage this accordingly within the groups abilities

Schedule
To give you an idea of what you'll be doing on the tour, we've set out an example schedule. Times and locations are arranged around prevailing weather to make the most of the conditions and light, so we'll always remain flexible around the exact details.

At the start of October in Snowdonia, sunrise is around 07:17 and sunset 18:53. This means (weather dependant) there'll be plenty of opportunity to enjoy the best of the light, at a reasonable hour of the day. There are many nearby locations we can choose from to visit, including: Nant Ffrancon, Llyn Ogwen, Llyn Idwal, Betws-Y-Coed, Llynnau Mymbyr, Llanberis Pass, Llyn Padarn, Menai Straights, not to mention the Ynys Mon (Anglesey) coastline.

Day 1 - Meet up at Royal Victoria Hotel then On location
Meet at hotel at 12pm (or we can collect you from Bangor railway station). We'll drop our bags and head straight out to explore nearby locations. We'll then 'properly' check in after 3pm and let you get settled. Then, it's back out to catch sunset before returning for our evening meal together.

Day 2 – On location
Head out to catch sunrise before returning for a welcome breakfast. Then it's back out for a full day, visiting up to three different locations. During the evening, there'll be the opportunity to review our days work and see what we've managed to capture. We'll have our evening meal together as a group.

Day 3 – On location
We'll enjoy breakfast before heading out for our location visits. Sunset offers a different take on some of the locations and we'll try and work that into the schedule. During the evening, as well as image review, I'll spend some time showing you my processing/editing workflow before enjoying our evening meal.

Day 4 – On location and tour end
On our last day, we'll head out early again to make the most of our time, then back to the accommodation for breakfast and then checkout. For one last hurrah, there'll be the chance to enjoy another couple of hours photography nearby, before we conclude the course and head home.

Not included:
* Transport to Holiday start/end location
* Travel insurance
* Drinks
* Lunch - With substantial breakfasts, lunch isn't included in order to keep costs down for you.

* Evening meal - The price of this tour excludes evening meals in order to provide more flexibility around eating options and time of meals. The overall cost of the tour has been reduced to take this into account.

How to book
